Freedom Access Construction is a small husband and wife run business.
Steve has always been fascinated by making something from nothing whether it is a construction project, a garden, or a dream. He loves getting to know the people he is working for and enjoys problem solving to make their lives easier. He is committed to quality, and still takes the lead on every construction project, so the guy you meet in the planning stage of your project, is the same guy who will be taking lead at the worksite.

Ami is behind the scenes, handling the paperwork, scheduling, and most of the business aspects. She is likely the friendly one you will talk with on the phone and get answers from in email. She is a graduate of The University of Dayton with bachelor degrees in both accounting and marketing. Her passion, creativity, and sound reasoning are used on a regular basis during the planning and troubleshooting parts of projects.
Both Steve and Ami have a history with people with disabilities. Ami has an older sister with Down syndrome and Steve used to teach people with disabilities how to swim. From cheering them on at Special Olympics, to being DJ’s at Down syndrome dances, they have always enjoyed those who they are trying to serve.
While they have always enjoyed their construction business, Steve and Ami started taking a serious interest in accessibility remodeling in 2009. Through interactions with Ami’s sister and her sister’s friends, they realized the need for specialized solutions for those with needs. Later on, they realized that the needs were often very similar for those without disabilities but advanced in age. Seeing both seniors and those with disabilities struggling with every day tasks really bothered them, and seeing poorly done construction projects that took advantage of those same people drove them crazy. They knew they could take their talents and recreate their company into one that truly cares and caters to the needs of those they serve. At that point, Steve and Ami moved into accessibility construction, and it was a natural fit.
From 2013 through the beginning of 2024, the company’s construction projects were almost exclusively done as a contractor for the Ohio Department of Developmentally Disabled (DODD). During 2023, it was decided to start the separation process from DODD and back into the private contracting world once again, specializing in accessibility.

Ami and Steve both believe that what they are providing is more than a job; it is a passion for providing freedom for those that struggle with everyday obstacles that restrict basic living. Basic tasks that most people in our country take completely for granted and can not even fathom. Steve is passionate about each and every job and strives for providing the absolute best outcome on very job.
